With college football bowl games in full effect and the playoffs just around the corner, it's time to dive deep into these mock drafts. The NFL Draft order at the top will be solidified soon enough and we can start predicting the early portion of the first round. Let's dive into the first round of the latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Wilson was arguably the best wide receiver in college football in 2021, forcing 19 missed tackles and generating five 100-yard games. He earned 0.47 wins above average, the 11th-best mark in football among wide receivers.
It's not clear who will be the Browns' quarterback in 2021, but what is clear is that they need a receiver who can make plays in a number of different circumstances. Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORKThe 2021 NFL season is moving quickly and that means it's time for our latest 2022 NFL mock draft. With some of the top quarterbacks in college football struggling, the door opens for defensive players to dominate the draft board. With a void on the interior lineman, enter Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Davis.
One of the most dominant defensive players in college football is going to be an outstanding gap stuffer in the NFL. The 2021 college football season is winding down, which means we are quickly approaching the start of NFL draft season. In the leadup to the 2022 NFL Draft, we will be tracking some of the latest mock drafts and prospect rankings.
Other than quarterback in Pittsburgh, there isn't a bigger need for a team right now than wide receiver is for New Orleans, and Burks answers the bell here. Burks was one of the most impressive wide receivers in college football this year, adding 0.32 wins above average while generating 9.3 yards after the catch per reception. There are few pass-catchers in college better at separating from defensive backs and creating a window for quarterbacks to target than Wilson. The college football season is heading to the end of the regular season and elite prospects are beginning to emerge for the NFL Draft. Players are solidifying themselves into the top 100 of the NFL Draft. Take a look at this mock draft and feel free to post your feedback on the Draft Countdown Forum.
The NFL playoffs are almost here with two weeks left in the regular season. While some teams are looking forward to playing in the tournament toward Super Bowl 56, more teams' next big event is the 2022 draft. At the same time, major college football is near the end of bowl season and set to play its much-anticipated latest four-team playoff. Thibodeaux stands out as one of the most talented edge rushers to play college football in recent years.
He is a lengthy, freakishly athletic, high-motored, diverse pass-rusher whose sky-high ceiling projects him as arguably the best pure prospect in the 2022 draft. Neal is the third most likely player to go first overall on DraftKings (+1000). The Alabama product is an excellent selection for the Texans, especially given how likely it is that Houston trades star left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The 6-foot-7, 350-pound tackle has increased his pass-blocking grade each year with the Crimson Tide and finished at 81.5 this year.
With the draft lacking high-end talent at the quarterback position and Davis Mills engineering two late-season wins the last two weeks, look for Houston to go with a position player here. Now, Dallas needs to put the finishing touches on its secondary to create the best NFL defense. Ahmad Gardner plays with physicality and it's part of the reason why he dominated at Cincinnati for so many years.
Working opposite of Trevon Diggs could be perfect for him. Bryan Lynn-USA TODAY SportsRounding out our defensive selections with the Eagles' first-round picks, they add a pass rusher to solidify the front. With prototypical size (6-foot-5) and a lightning-quick first step off the snap, Walker just needs NFL coaching to become an eight-plus sack player at the next level.
After playing only one game in 2020, Ojabo erupted for an 11-sack season this year with five forced fumbles. This could just be a hint of what he is able to accomplish as this athlete becomes an even better football player. Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY SportsGeorge Karlaftis doesn't have the stats of an elite pass rush, recording just 4.5 sacks in 2021.
But at 6-foot-4, a player who earned a spot on Bruce Feldman's 2021 college football freaks list and draws immense praise for his work ethic, Karlaftis can be a top-5 pick. For the Texans, who will likely emphasize specific qualities and draft based on value, Karlaftis fits. With the NFL and college football seasons nearing the two-month mark, the 2022 NFL Draft picture is becoming clearer.
The following NFL mock draft was updated Tuesday, October 21. The college football regular season is over, and we'll be hearing players declare for the draft, which is a sign that draft season is around the corner. For the Las Vegas Raiders, they are still trying to make one last attempt at the playoffs, but this season has shown that there are plenty of holes left to fill.
The closer we get to draft day, the more I attempt to match what teams will actually do with their draft picks as opposed to what I believe they should do. Generating 0.48 wins above average in 2021, Williams emerged as the best skill position player in an offense that is now favored to take home the College Football Playoff Championship. The Raiders' need at wide receiver stems largely from what happened with their 2020 draft pick, Henry Ruggs III, who was released during the 2021 season. With some quarterback and wide receiver options still available, the Lions punt on those spots and go with another defensive player here. John Reed-USA TODAY SportsPro Football FOcus' highest-rated cornerback in coverage this season, Roger McCreary faced the best wide receivers in the SEC and contained them better than anyone.
The 6-foot defensive back brings all the qualities of a lockdown corner and would fit nicely in Brandon Staley's defense. Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsA consensus top-three pick in 2022 NFL mock drafts before the season, Sam Howell didn't play up to expectations this year. But in a season without all of his top offensive weapons that went to the NFL, Howell still scored 34 total touchdowns with 2,851 passing yards and 825 rushing yards. Blankenship has very good size at 6'1, 200 and pairs it with excellent athleticism. The Draft Network reports that he has been timed running a low 4.5s 40, along with a 38" vertical.
He played a versatile role at MTSU including reps as a box safety, slot defender, and single-high coverage player. Blankenship is a strong tackler who brings physicality to the position, and he's comfortable playing in zone and blitzing in sub-packages. He'll need time to adjust to the NFL level, but Blankenship should be able to play a core special teams role and provide depth at multiple spots in the secondary as a rookie. As a former wide receiver, Williams is an excellent pass-catcher who runs a variety of routes and shows off strong hands.
He's also a very good pass blocker—perhaps the best in the entire draft class—and that matters for a Falcons team with a poor OL. Although he's not a home-run threat, he's got enough juice to rip off 10+ yard gains if he finds a crease. He's also not a particularly good asset in short-yardage situations, though he does run with good contact balance and doesn't shy away from hits. With a quality short-yardage option already in the fold in Cordarrelle Patterson, Williams should be able to take over Mike Davis' role and hopefully provide improved production at a lower price. Arkansas' Treylon Burks is a big and physical wide receiver. The 6'3", 225-pounder caught 51 passes for 820 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games last season. No collegiate player is better at providing a target for his quarterback.
Now, Staley is the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers with the opportunity to select a similar talent to Floyd in this 2022 projection. Oklahoma's Nik Bonitto is the nation's best returning pass-rusher. According to Pro Football Focus, Bonitto led major college football last season in pass-rush grade (93.6), pass-rush win rate and pressure rate generated (25.7 percent). The second specter appears to explain that any prediction, whether attempting to forecast football game results, economic activity or the weather, is modelled on past events.
Therefore, mock drafts are attempting to show what would be -- if teams followed patterns from previous years. The kindly presence will then explain that there are always variations between past and future events -- so no mock draft will be 100 percent accurate. After getting Ja'Marr Chase to go along with Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins in the 2021 draft, it is time to put some better players in front of Joe Burrow.
Green is that caliber of player; his pass-blocking and run-blocking grades have improved each year since he entered college football in 2019. A year after drafting Jevon Holland, one of the 10 most valuable rookies in the NFL, the Dolphins get their second safety here in Brisker. Brisker would have been considered the best safety in college football had it not been for Kyle Hamilton and the splash plays he made earlier in the season. His 0.33 wins above average were seventh at the position in 2021. Defense is the priority for the Falcons, but no one can deny how underwhelming the offensive line has been. First-round pick Kaleb McGary hasn't panned out, and the unit needs to find a way to gain strength this coming offseason.
As mentioned, defense is usually the call for the Falcons in 2022 mock drafts. But this time, we go offense first — because you simply can't settle on the offensive line. The Lions' lack of receiver talent has been apparent, but there are plenty of prospects in the draft.
London excels at football and basketball at 6-foot-5 and is off to an incredible start with 832 yards in his first six games. Booth hasn't had a full season as a starter yet for Clemson, but he has so much untapped potential to work with heading into 2021 and beyond. He is an athletic cornerback with the ball skills of a wide receiver, consistent physicality in man coverage and urgency in the run game. A bigger linebacker at 6'3, 245, Clark is also a very good athlete with rare speed for the position.
His bigger stature and longer frame limit his lateral mobility, but his long speed and instincts help him overcome some of these limitations. That additional size gives him added versatility in coverage, however, as he's capable of matching up with TEs in man coverage. Clark's weaknesses come in block shedding technique and in his ability to diagnose plays. He needs to improve both of these to thrive at the NFL level.
However, his red-hot motor and on-field leadership ability give me faith that he can continue to grow as a player—he's just a two-year starter at this point. Bonitto is a dynamic athlete who also plays well above his weight as a run defender. He sets the edge very well and has impressive strength and tackling ability. As a pass rusher, Bonitto has excellent bend and explosiveness off the snap.
He has a variety of pass rush moves and is technically advanced with his hands and football IQ. It'll take a creative, flexible DC to use Bonitto to his full potential—and I think Dean Pees' multiple, attacking front is a perfect fit. The first spirit would explain that mock drafts are usually not a vision of what the writer believes each team should do. The apparition would explain that these projections are not meant to indicate there is but only one player at each pick that is the correct one for the team to select.
This season, the only times the Buffalo Bills have been able to get consistent production from the ground game has been when Josh Allen has been able to make plays with his legs. While it worked at times, this is not a long-term solution for this offense and the focus in this mock draft will be addressing the run game. Going into the week, Ben Roethlisberger had generated 0.24 wins above replacement, which is one of the worst marks in the NFL among quarterbacks. Using Pro Football Network's simulator, we took a look at which way the Panthers might go with their draft selections in our latest seven-round mock following the college football playoff semi-finals. With their first pick in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, the Jets solidified the offensive side of the ball with Neal.
Now, they'll turn their sights to the defense, intent on attacking opposing tackles. The 2022 NFL Draft is loaded with edge-rushing talent, but one of the most exciting and fast-rising players is David Ojabo, who's been the other half of Michigan's dominant pass rush. The Broncos are talented enough to still be in the playoff picture right now, which means they would be doing this team a disservice by not improving on their quarterback situation in the offseason.
Denver chose to be patient last year, but I find it hard to believe they can hold their water for a second-straight draft. If for any reason they do, I'd love to see an edge rusher like Ojabo available. With Von Miller gone, and Bradley Chubb's injury history, finding someone that can routinely pressure Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert will be essential. In my opinion, there is no prospect in the 2022 draft class that is worthy of the #1 overall pick. This leaves the Jags really with a choice between Edge defender Aidan Hutchinson, who would become a fan favorite with his non-stop motor and JJ Watt level effort.
And Evan Neal, a 6'7", 360 lb colossus of an offensive tackle who will immediately upgrade the offensive line by replacing expensive Cam Robinson, an average LT playing under a franchise tag this year. Kareem Elgazzar/The Cincinnati Enquirer via USA TODAY NETWORKWith J.J. Watt's future in doubt and Chandler Jones slated to become a free agent, Arizona will have to address the edge pass rush position in the draft. Sanders (6-foot-5, 258) was a likely first-round pick in the 2020 draft. He returned to school for his senior season and continues to perform at a high level (23.5 sacks past three seasons).
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsIt wouldn't be a New York Giants mock draft without one of the picks being spent on an offensive tackle. Ikem Ekwonu, a 6-foot-4 versatile lineman out of NC State, brings plenty of physical traits that attract NFL scouts and he also ties it all together with an excellent work ethic. Put him at right tackle and the Giants' offense will suddenly look more respectable with an offensive line holding up in the trenches. Safety isn't the most pressing need for the New York Giants, but there isn't an edge rusher worth taking at this spot in our NFL mock draft. Kyle Hamilton is one of the best safety prospects to enter the NFL Draft in years and if Patrick Graham remains the Giants' defensive coordinator, he'll help Hamilton become a perennial Pro Bowl selection. Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThere are three options for the Jacksonville Jagaurs in our 2022 NFL mock draft.
The Jags could add do-it-all safety Kyle Hamilton to their secondary or strengthen the offensive line with left tackle Evan Beal. But Kayvon Thibodeaux offers upside this franchise can't pass on at a real position of need. Stingley Jr. had a medical procedure on his foot last week and doesn't have a timetable for his return. While it's unfortunately that he got injured obviously, the good news for him is that it won't really affect his draft stock as he's already proved himself as a high-level player. Danielle Hunter's return from injury has been a relief for the Vikings this season, but they could still use another pass rusher.
Karlaftis has bounced back after playing only two games last season and remains a strong first-round prospect. The Jags are in a position to select the best defensive player available, and that's still Thibodeaux despite an early-season ankle injury. The talented edge rusher has 14 sacks in 23 career games. Hodges-Tomlinson is a bit undersized at 5-foot-9, but his fluidity, route-recognition, ball skills and athleticism stand out on tape. A shutdown cornerback who plays with a scrappy edge in man coverage, he would bring an element of swagger and a high football IQ to Chicago's secondary. Though he has some kinks to iron out in his game, Strong is a fascinating long-term developmental pick at quarterback.
